Investment banking, an important component of capital market, have been developed in Mongolia since the country jumped from centrally planned economy to free market economy in 1990s. Capital market itself is another essential part of financial market. However, the development of capital market including investment banking sector is relatively poor in Mongolia. The thesis aims to find out the challenges on investment banking and potential ways we can use to improve the condition of investment banking. The thesis emphasizes on the experiences of countries with most successful banking sector. In the research, semi-structured review method is applied to help find out the challenges and possibilities of investment banking in Mongolia from professional experts in the field.
The empirical results imply that Mongolia has a potentially positive outlook in investment banking because it has been slowly but gradually developing since the beginning. Several challenges exist in the market, but opportunities are still there to come. Based on the findings, suggestions have made to find ways to overcome or diminish the challenges facing investment banking and personal views of possible solutions are pointed out accordingly.
