Challenges in Mongolia’s health insurance system and ways to improve its accessibility

Abstract

Mongolia’s economy and population are growing rapidly that government has to start considering more about Mongolian health care system, which, plays a big role in the human development. As the health insurance system is developing better than before, but there are still some challenges that citizens are facing to access the health care service. In this paper, I aimed to determine the problems, locals struggle to get access of better healthcare in Mongolia. The course of this study is mostly based on legal system, in order to identify the problem. Approximately 300 people were surveyed and asked questions such as their income, education level, how much they care about their health, how often they receive health care and others to determine how satisfied they are with their health insurance. According to the survey, about half of the population is satisfied with the health insurance system. But in reality, people do not know much about the health insurance system. In most cases, people pay only what they are told at the cash register after receiving medical care, so they do not know how to calculate the amount.
